HAVING YOUR HEART EXAMINED

While visiting in the home of a church member, I saw something I had never seen before, actual pictures of the inside of the heart of someone I knew personally.  This particular member had experienced heart surgery, and the physician had given him copies of the pictures of the inside of his heart to take to another physician who was treating him.

I thought of I Samuel 16:7 which tells us that "the Lord looketh on the heart." Psalms 44:21 tells us that "He knoweth the secrets of the heart." Psalms 139:23 says, "Search me...and know my heart."

Solomon acknowledged Gods unique perspective concerning the spiritual heart of a man when he said in I Kings 8:39, "Thou, even thou only, knowest the hearts of all the children of men." Acts 15:8 points out the same truth by telling us that "God knoweth the heart." God can see into the spiritual heart of every human clearer than any physician has ever seen the physical heart.

CHURCH SERVICES ARE TIMES OF EXAMINATION

I Corinthians 14:24-25 tells us about one who is an unbeliever or unlearned who enters the church services to find that the "secrets of his heart are made manifest." Could it be that some people wont go to church for the same reason they wont go to see a physician - they are afraid they might find out that something is wrong.

THE BIBLE REVEALS BLOCKAGES IN THE HEART

We seem to have the same problem in the spiritual that people develop in the physical - blockages in the heart. The Bible speaks of hardness of heart. Zechariah 8:12 tells us that Israel "made their hearts as an adamant stone." The adamant stone is thought to be the same as the corundum, the second hardest of all minerals. God told his preacher in Ezekiel 3:9 that He (God) had hade his (the prophets) "as an adamant harder than flint." It is apparently alright to be "hardheaded" about important things, but it is wrong to be "hardhearted."

A SPIRITUALLY HARD HEART SADDENS THE LORD!

Jesus encountered this hardness of heart.  Mark 3:5 tells us that "he . . . looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts."

A HARDENED HEART BRINGS PROBLEMS

It is true in the physical. It is true in the spiritual. Proverbs 28:14 warns us that "he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief." A hardened heart keeps you from enjoying Gods blessings. Mark 6:52 says, "they considered not the miracle of the loaves, for their heart was hardened." Jesus upbraided the disciples in Mark 16:15 for their unbelief and hardness of heart.

THERE IS A CURE

Job said (23:16), "For God maketh my heart soft." Psalms 51:10 is a good prayer to pray, "Create in me a clean heart, 0 God; and renew a right spirit within me." Something must be done about the heart of unbelief. Unbelief is the blockage keeping Christ outside. He loves you and desires to enter in and take care of your heart problem. Why not invite into your heart the one who died for your sins.
