HE  GROWS GRASS.

PSA. 104:14   "He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle,

and herb for the service of man:

that he may bring forth food out of the earth;"

 I LOVE SERMONS

THAT HAVE AN AGRARIAN BACKDROP.

In the history of man,

many professions have come & gone,

but the noble profession of farming

will last until the end of time.

Gen. 8:22        While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat,

and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

This is true for the just and the unjust.

Both a "Cain" and a "Noah" will toil in the soil.

There are lessons that we need to learn about God

that can be learned from the ground up.

God will meet with a man at a bush (Moses)

A well -

A sheepfold

A field,

& will teach him there.

Truth comes to us in scarlet in the temple,

But it also comes in burlap on the farm.

We can learn from the grass that is everywhere in our world.

I.   THERE IS SOMETHING TO BE GLEANED FROM GRASS

CONCERNING THE PRESENCE OF GOD

Psa. 104:14      He causeth the grass to grow

God has been (and is) everywhere there is grass.

&        Grass is everywhere  -     As is Grace.

We can learn a lesson from every blade of grass.

You will have to walk

over a million lessons in your life

and ignore everyone

if you wish to not learning something of God.

II.   THERE IS SOMETHING TO BE GLEANED FROM GRASS

CONCERNING THE PROVISION OF GOD.

Ps 104:14    "He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle,

and herb for the service of man:

that he may bring forth food out of the earth;"

The farmer should know more than anyone

knows that he is dependent upon God

for the growth of the grass.

Is it any less marvelous or miraculous

that our bread should grow from the ground

than if it fell from heaven?

We take that for granted

As though it were perfectly normal.

We need to be reminded

Ps 104:14    "He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle,

and herb for the service of man:

that he may bring forth food out of the earth;"

So, wherever there is grass   (which is everywhere)

there should be a sense of

God's power - causeth grass to grow;

God's purpose - for the cattle

WE SEE THE HAND OF THE GOD

IN THE GROWING OF THE GRASS.

When we look at the grass,

we can learn something about God.

He is not in the grass;

He is the creator of the grass.

We learn an amazing thing:

that the Infinite God of the Universe

is interested in even a finite blade of grass.

He knows about

even that blade unknown, unobserved, all alone

in a lonely valley.

If He knows about a blade of grass,

He knows about us as well.

THERE ARE SO MANY WAYS TODAY

THAT WE ARE LIKE THE GRASS.

Isa 40:6           The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field:

1 Peter 1:24    For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:

1.   Like each blade of grass, we are common

There are many, many others just like each us.

Think of the billions of blades of grass,

Each one owes its existence to God.

Each of us owes our existence to God.

Being like grass should teach us humility.

2.   Like grass, our time here is temporary.

Psalms 103:

15   As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.

16   For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more.

God has fixed it so that we see every day

His chosen symbol of our own mortality.

You will have to step

over a million lessons in your life to be lost.

Every blade of grass cries to us,

and reminds us of our mortality.

3.    Like the grass, we are utterly dependent upon God

for the showers of blessings He sends our way.

Our very existence depends upon Him.

Everywhere you see grass,

you can say,

"My Father did this."

The ground beneath us

is dependent upon the heaven above us.

And so are we.

WE ALSO SEE THE HAND OF GOD

IN THE CARING FOR THE CATTLE.

Ps 104:14        "He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle,

and herb for the service of man:

that he may bring forth food out of the earth; ..."

He gives the cow what it needs.

If He does that for the cow,

does He not also provide for us as well?

1Cor. 9:9         For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen?

If he has provided for the ox,

Has he not provided for you also?

The cattle are taken care of by God

even though they are unable to take care of themselves.

Apart from God, & His provision,

All a cow could do would be to moan in misery,

but God provides for the cattle.

He provides for us as well.

PSALMS 73:

22 So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee.

23 Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.

24 Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.

The reason He takes care of the cattle

is that they belong to Him.

Psa. 50:10       For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.

If you belong to God,

He will take care of you.

It's really very simple,

HE GIVES THE GRASS,

THE COW CONSUMES THE GRASS.

Grass is what the cow needs.

Grace is what we need.

Grace is given;

Will you be a consumer?

The grass appeals to the cow?

Does grace appeal to you?

I cannot ...;  I would not "force feed" you.

I would sooner try to make a cow

eat a skunk

As I would to try to ram the gospel

down your throat.

If you have no appetite for these things,

I cannot help you.

But if you see your need of grace,

like a cow sees its need of grass,

then there is hope for you.

He provides grace for man,

just like He provides grass for cattle.

Will you partake?
