PSALMS 138:1-8 - LET'S PRAISE THE LORD

(Outline Summary:  Unlimited Adoration, Unintimidated Expression, Unashamed Appreciation,

Delightful Anticipation, Clear Presentation, Confident Assertion)

I. GOD IS WORTHY OF UNLIMITED ADORATION,
EXTRAVAGANT, WHOLEHEARTED WORSHIP - VS. 1

SOMEONE SAID,

" . . . full devotion and extravagant affection for Jesus Christ and His cause
should be the norm for every believer."

WE HAVE NOT YET SEEN THE FULNESS OF HIS GLORY,
BUT WE HAVE SEEN ENOUGH TO INSPIRE PRAISE.

1Cor 2:9     But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard,

neither have entered into the heart of man, the things

which God hath prepared for them that love him.
10     But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit:

for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

WE DON'T HAVE TO SEE THE WHOLE PICTURE TO PRAISE HIM.

John 8:26       I have many things to say and to judge of you:
but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things
which I have heard of him.

John 16:12     I have yet many things to say unto you,
but ye cannot bear them now.

OH, HOW WE WILL PRAISE HIM
WHEN WE SEE IT ALL.

II. UNINTIMIDATED EXPRESSION - VS. 1 b (Psalms 138)

"before the gods"

WHO ARE THESE GODS?

Jer. 16:20 Shall a man make gods unto himself,
and they are no gods?

1Cor 8:4 As concerning therefore the eating of
those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols,
we know that an idol is nothing in the world,
and that there is none other God but one.

1Cor 8:5 For though there be that are called gods,
whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many,
and lords many,)
8:6 But to us there is but one God, the Father,
of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ,
by whom are all things, and we by him.

DAVID FELT NO INTIMIDATION

        WHY ARE WE SO INTIMIDATED?

WE SHOULD NEVER BE EMBARRASSED
TO SING OR UTTER HIS PRAISE
EVEN IN THE PRESENCE OF UNBELIEVERS.

III. UNASHAMED APPRECIATION - VS. 2-3 (Psalms 138)

To the one who knows all about us,
and still loves us - Psalms 139:1-7

IV. DELIGHTFUL ANTICIPATION - VS. 4-5 (Psalms 138)

All the kings will praise him.
David was a king.
All the kings in David's day did not praise the Lord.

Isa. 45:23 I have sworn by myself, the word is gone
out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return,
That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.

Rom. 14:11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord,
every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.

Phil 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

V.   CLEAR PRESENTATION (OF HOW IT ALL WORKS) - VS. 6 - (PSALMS 138)

GOD WILL MANIFEST HIMSELF TO THE ONE WHO IS DOWN,
NEEDING HELP, AND HE WILL RENDER AID
TO THE ONE WHO HUMBLES HIMSELF.

Jame 4:6 But he giveth more grace.
Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud,
but giveth grace unto the humble.

1Pet 5:5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder.
Yea, all of you be subject one to another,
and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud,
and giveth grace to the humble.

Jame 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord,
and he shall lift you up.

WE SHOULD UNDERSTAND THAT IT IS GOD'S
NATURE TO GO TO THE ONE WHO IS DOWN.
WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE SAME NATURAL IMPULSE,
A NATURAL URGE TO GO TO SOMEONE WHO IS DOWN.

ESPECIALLY TO ONE OF YOUR FALLEN CHILDREN.

VI.   A CONFIDENT ASSERTION - VS. 7-8 - (PSALMS 138)
1. Though we walk in the midst of trouble, He will revive us - vs. 7.
We may need to be revived because we have fainted.

2. The Lord will perfect that which concerns us - vs. 8.

3. He will not forsake the work of His own hands. - vs. 8b

2Tim 1:12 For the which cause I also suffer these things:
nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed,
and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed
unto him against that day.

Phil 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath
begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
